Titan America Cements Partnership With EPA Energy Star Program

NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 26 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Titan America LLC today announced its partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy's Energy Star(R) Program. As a condition of the partnership, Titan America agrees to submit to independent monitoring of its energy efficiency. This will include base lining, tracking and benchmarking the company's energy performance, using tools offered through Energy Star(R).

"By making a commitment to improved energy performance, Titan America is on the way to enhancing its bottom line while demonstrating environmental leadership," said Elizabeth Dutrow, Director, Industrial Sector Partnerships with Energy Star(R). "Senior executives are key to developing robust energy strategies and both challenging and enabling their businesses to succeed."

Titan America will continue to implement their plan to reduce energy intensity across all of their operations using strategies provided by the program. "Titan has embedded corporate social responsibility and sustainability into all of its operations. These principles are based on the deeply-rooted belief that these are not only good business practices but an ethical responsibility," said Aris Papadopoulos, Chief Executive Officer of Titan America.

Last year, both of Titan's cement plants, Roanoke Cement Company LLC in Troutville, VA and Pennsuco Cement in Medley, FL, were recipients of the prestigious Energy Star(R) Award recognizing manufacturers' energy efficient solutions that save money while protecting the environment and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Roanoke Cement Company also received Energy Star(R) recognition in 2007.

In line with the nationwide desire for energy policy efficiency initiatives, the Congress, directed by the Obama Administration, passed more than $408 billion in investments in energy in "The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009" signed into law last week. Every one of these authorized dollars are to be spent on efficient, sustainable, conservation-minded, "green" projects that will help America achieve energy independence and move away from dependency on foreign oil. The Energy Star(R) Program designates industries to set the pace for this exciting industrial revolution.
